The Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development (IICSD) is pleased to announce a major upgrade to Amoye, Nigeria’s first civic-tech artificial intelligence chatbot dedicated to open government, citizen engagement and local government administration.
Since its launch in October 2025 under the Osun Open Local Government Project (OsunOpenLG), Amoye has continued to serve as a digital civic assistant, providing citizens with easy access to information on local governance, transparency, accountability and grassroots development. As part of our commitment to making governance information more accessible and interactive, the platform has now been enhanced with a range of new features designed to improve user experience and deepen civic participation.
One of the most significant additions to the platform is the integration of information and voter education resources derived from the Electoral Act 2026. Users can now access simplified explanations of electoral laws, voting procedures, citizens’ rights and responsibilities, electoral offences and other critical information aimed at promoting informed participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
This enhancement comes at a crucial period as Osun State prepares for the 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general elections. Through this feature, Amòye seeks to contribute to voter awareness, electoral inclusion and civic education by making important electoral information available in a simple and accessible format.
The platform has also introduced a voice prompt feature, enabling users to interact with the chatbot through voice commands and receive responses in a more convenient and user-friendly manner. This innovation expands accessibility and allows a wider range of citizens, including those who may be less comfortable with text-based interactions, to engage with governance information.
In another significant upgrade, Amòye now supports image uploads, allowing users to submit photographs relating to local government administration, public infrastructure and community development projects. Through this feature, citizens can seek clarification, verify claims, report observations and engage more meaningfully in conversations around governance and service delivery at the grassroots level.
The upgraded platform further expands its repository of local governance information, including data on statutory allocations received by Osun State local governments from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC). Citizens can access information that promotes a better understanding of public finance and strengthens accountability around the management of local government resources.
Amòye also provides information on the constitutional roles and responsibilities of local governments, covering key sectors such as primary healthcare, basic education, local infrastructure, public safety, urban planning, revenue administration and citizen participation. The platform equally contains information on notable projects executed by local governments across Osun State, including rural road rehabilitation, empowerment programmes and security interventions.
These new features reinforce Amòye’s position as a pioneering civic innovation that leverages artificial intelligence to bridge information gaps between citizens and public institutions. By combining governance information, civic education, public finance data, electoral resources and interactive technologies within a single platform, Amòye continues to redefine how citizens engage with government and democratic processes.
