During the week, team members of the Osun Open Local Government Project visited the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) to seek partnerships as well as their support and attendance at the OsunOpenLG Project Stakeholders Meeting holding on August 26.
Receiving the team led by the Project Team Lead, Jare Tiamiyu, the OSSIEC Chairman, Barr. Hashim Abioye pleaded the readiness of the commission to partner the project and support its upcoming programme.
Tiamiyu said the Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development is set to work with the Commission to having credible and transparent elections in February 2025.
“Good governance starts with credible electoral system. The citizens must have trust in the electoral system in order to develop interest in the leadership produced by the process. We are set to ensure we work hand-in-hand with OSSIEC towards a credible elections. We will commence by sharing data on what the concerns of Osun residents are on the local government election. We are also exploring opportunity of observing the elections since we have minimum of two persons at each of the local government already.”
Barrister Abioye promised that the Commission under his watch will work hard to bring about transparency and to ensure every stakeholder, including civil societies, is carried along in the process of the election.
Some of the deals brokered with OSSIEC include sharing data and information on relevant areas of mutual interest and adoption of OsunOpenLG advocates as observers for the forthcoming local government election, among other key areas.
